Abstract

Street art, a form of public art that emerged in the 20th century, has become a ubiquitous presence in urban landscapes around the world. Characterized by its unsanctioned and often ephemeral nature, street art encompasses a wide range of techniques and styles, from graffiti and stencils to murals and wheatpastes. While street art has often been viewed as a form of vandalism or graffiti, it has also been recognized for its potential to beautify public spaces, raise awareness of social issues, and challenge traditional notions of art and ownership. This paper explores the impact of street art on urban landscapes and social consciousness. It examines the historical and theoretical underpinnings of street art, as well as its diverse forms and expressions. The paper also discusses the social and political implications of street art, considering its ability to challenge authority, promote social commentary, and foster community engagement.
